FURTHER ACTION.

With reference to my letter of

the 13th April regarding your Question in

the House on the 27th of March, I have now

heard from the Governor of Hong Kong about

the use of Japanese cement in the various

constructional works in that Colony.

It appears that in calling for

tenders for public works the Government has

on no occasion specified the use of foreign

cement; the specification clause inserted

in the conditions of every tender for

contract specifies the use of cement "from

a British factory or other source approved

by the engineer ". It is clear, therefore,
